AER Datahub Differences

Link: https://www.aer.ca/data-and-performance-reports/data-hub/gas-production

  • Data Hub Volumes: includes experimental and confidential production numbers but excludes production reported from storage wells. The rationale is that gas injected into storage wells is assumed to have been reported as production when initially extracted.
  • Petrinex Volumes: The Petrinex reports (https://www.petrinex.ca/PD/Pages/APD.aspx) exclude facilities that are experimental confidential and the volumes for confidential wells. More information about this exclusion can be found in page 7 of the supporting pdf document: https://www.petrinex.ca/PD/Documents/PD_Conventional_Volumetrics_Report.pdf

Example

This data is from January 2023, for Alberta, and pulled directly from the included links.

Petrinex Public Data

AER Dashboard Data

Link: https://www.aer.ca/data-and-performance-reports/data-hub/gas-production)

  • Total Gas Production (Jan 2023) = 11,594,253 e3m3/month

Difference (Jan 2023)

  • 12,436,317 e3m3 – 11,594,253 e3m3 = 842,064 e3m3

AER Explanation

This data was provided by the AER.

Summary

As you can see above, the sum of the Confidential Volumes and the Storage Well Production equal the difference between the Petrinex and Datahub Volume.

Note: As previously mentioned, Petrinex does not report Confidential Volumes.
